Minimal Pairs Partner Challenge

(April 2021: Links have been repaired for several SSBE soundfiles. Thank you for alerting me to these problems and don’t hesitate to contact me with any further questions.)

Your partner says the sentence with ONE of the words (Tommy is kin.).

You reply by choosing the appropriate response or comment.

For example:

  • Partner A says “Tommy is kin.” and expects to hear Reply 2.
  • Partner B hears “kin” and (correctly) replies “We can’t kick him out of the house!”
  • Partner B hears “keen” and (incorrectly) replies, “I’ve never seen him so excited before!”

*The possible Replies appear in alphabetical order. For example, in BEAT/BIT, the first sentence has two possible replies, which start “I‘ve never” and “We can’t”.
